ESG4PMChange Newsletter Published: Empowering the Next Generation of Sustainable Project Management Professionals

European Academy is pleased to share the latest newsletter of the ESG4PMChange project — The ESG Imperative for the Project Management World: Alliance for Developing and Empowering Changemakers, now available on the official project website.

Funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme under the Alliances for Innovation action, ESG4PMChange brings together a dynamic European consortium of higher education institutions, vocational education and training providers, enterprises, professional associations, and innovation organisations. Together, the partners are working towards a shared ambition: to transform project management education and professional development by embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance principles into the competencies, learning pathways, and practical tools needed by future project managers.

As sustainability expectations continue to reshape the world of work, project managers are increasingly expected to do more than deliver projects on time and within budget. They are called to lead responsibly, understand ESG risks and opportunities, support ethical decision-making, contribute to climate and social goals, and help organisations create long-term value. ESG4PMChange responds directly to this challenge by bridging the gap between labour market needs and education systems.

The newly published newsletter presents the project’s recent progress and highlights the State-of-the-Art Report on ESG Project Management in Europe, which provides a comprehensive overview of ESG integration in project management. The report explores current ESG and sustainable project management concepts, European policy and regulatory frameworks, labour market trends, emerging professional roles, educational gaps, and stakeholder perspectives from academia and industry.

For European Academy, this project is closely aligned with our mission to provide practical, relevant, and high-quality learning experiences for professionals, learners, and organisations across Europe. As a VET partner in ESG4PMChange, European Academy contributes to the development of training approaches that are accessible, skills-oriented, and connected to real-world professional needs. The project gives us the opportunity to support learners and professionals in acquiring ESG project management competencies that can be applied in practice — across sectors, organisations, and European contexts.

Through the project, European Academy is contributing to the development of innovative training pathways, digital learning resources, instructional materials, and piloting activities that will help make ESG project management education more flexible, inclusive, and future-oriented. The project’s work on micro-credentials, experiential learning, and digital resources is particularly important for enabling professionals to upskill and reskill in response to fast-changing sustainability requirements.

The newsletter also highlights several important findings: ESG project management is becoming a critical skill area across sectors such as energy, construction, consulting, finance, and the public sector; employers increasingly need professionals who combine sustainability knowledge with strong project management capabilities; and education providers must adapt curricula and training programmes to include hands-on learning, real-world case studies, and stronger collaboration with industry.

European Academy is proud to be part of this European effort to prepare learners, professionals, and organisations for a more sustainable future. By strengthening ESG-oriented project management education, ESG4PMChange contributes not only to professional development, but also to a broader culture of responsibility, resilience, and impact.
