European Academy participated in the GreenTech Horizons Joint 2nd & 3rd “Train the Teachers” meeting, held between the 19th and 23rd of January 2026 across two locations: Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) M-Lab Centre in Kaunas, Lithuania (19–20 January) and Riga Technical University (RTU) in Riga, Latvia (22–23 January). The in-person programme brought together project partners to strengthen educators’ capacity to deliver high-quality digital courses that support the dual green and digital transitions in the Neighbourhood East, Central Asia, and Asia.
The training week focused on enhancing teachers’ pedagogical, didactic, and instructional design competencies, with a clear emphasis on practical application. Partners worked together on how to structure engaging learning pathways, map learning outcomes, and align course content with competencies, ensuring that future courses are both learner-centred and fit for purpose in fast-evolving educational and professional environments.
Across the five days, sessions explored how to teach and integrate key thematic areas into sustainability-oriented curricula, including:
- Digital tools for sustainability and digital transformation approaches that support greener practices
- AI in education, with attention to responsible use and effective learning design
- Digital literacy for sustainability, supporting learners in navigating technology-driven change
- Cybersecurity and data ethics in green innovation, addressing secure and ethical digital practices
- Environmental science & technology and sustainable energy systems, connecting foundations to real-world application
- Smart cities and urban green innovation, highlighting emerging challenges and solution pathways
A strong “learning-by-doing” approach ran throughout the programme. A highlight was the interactive tabletop simulation game “NOrisk”, which supported hands-on development of skills in cyber risk identification, evaluation, and response planning. The agenda was further enriched by guided visits to KTU’s M-Lab experimental and prototyping laboratories and RTU’s facilities, offering valuable insight into how interdisciplinary innovation environments can strengthen applied education and collaboration.
In addition to teaching methodologies, partners dedicated time to the implementation of the project’s digital infrastructure and eLearning ecosystem, sharing good practices and discussing next steps for building an accessible, robust platform to support course delivery and engagement across participating regions.
European Academy thanks KTU and RTU, the meeting coordinators, and all project partners for the excellent organisation and collaborative spirit. The outcomes of this joint training week will directly support the development and delivery of GreenTech Horizons courses—strengthening educators’ capacity to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed for sustainability, digital resilience, and innovation.
