Building on the success of its structured proposal development training series, IHE Delft Institute for Water Education partnered once again with European Academy for the second session in a three-part series, this time focusing on the Excellence section of Horizon Europe proposals.
Held online on 17 December 2024, this session equipped participants with the tools and insights needed to develop strong, evaluator-aligned narratives that clearly articulate the scientific ambition, novelty, and impact of their project ideas.
What Makes a Proposal Excellent?
The training provided a deep dive into what evaluators expect when assessing the Excellence section of a Horizon Europe proposal. Participants explored how to:
Translate ideas into clear, measurable objectives using the Objective–Output–Indicator framework
Align project aims with the expected outcomes of the call
Distinguish between a compelling methodology and the implementation plan
Incorporate cross-cutting elements, such as gender equality and research data management (FAIR principles)
Avoid common pitfalls that weaken the scientific credibility and clarity of the proposal
Interactive discussions and case-based examples helped participants refine their approach to this critical section, ensuring their proposals would stand out in a highly competitive evaluation process.
