As part of its ongoing efforts to reinforce Malta’s national capacity in EU-funded project coordination, Xjenza Malta—the government agency responsible for scientific research, technological innovation, and science communication—partnered with European Academy to deliver a focused, on-site training on the PM² Methodology for managing and coordinating European Commission funded projects.
The training, delivered on 7–8 July 2025, offered a highly practical and hands-on learning experience aligned with the European Commission’s project management best practices.
Why PM² Matters for Public Sector Innovation
The PM² methodology, developed by the European Commission, offers a common language and standardised structure for managing EU projects effectively and transparently. For Xjenza Malta, adopting PM² is a strategic move to professionalise internal project processes, enhance cross-border collaboration, and ensure compliance with Horizon Europe requirements.
During the two-day training, participants explored key topics including:
Lifecycle management of EU-funded projects using PM²
Creation and use of core artefacts like the Business Case, Project Charter, and Work Plan
Applying stakeholder analysis tools and the RASCI model for assigning roles
Managing project change, risks, and quality assurance
Effective closure, lessons learned, and reporting practices
The training also featured in-depth guidance on practical tools and templates that teams can integrate into their daily workflows.
Certification Pathway: From Training to Credentials
To further support professional development, all participants received PM² Essentials certification exam vouchers, enabling them to validate their knowledge with a recognised credential. This step empowers Xjenza Malta staff not only to manage projects effectively but also to build lasting career value through formal certification.
The initiative reflects Xjenza’s strong commitment to investing in its people—ensuring that teams coordinating EC-funded activities are both knowledgeable and officially qualified.
